Top 10 Recipes of 2022

The top 10 recipes on Downshiftology this year centered around quick-and-easy recipes. Who doesn’t love a one-pan meal or an easy air-fryer dinner? Plus, I launched my first cookbook this year and it became a national bestseller!

Top 10 Recipes of 2022

Even though I posted fewer new recipes in 2022, it was nonetheless a very busy year for Downshiftology. And that’s because I launched my first cookbook!

After working on my cookbook for the last three years (holy smokes, the biggest project I’ve ever undertaken!) it was incredible to finally see it in your homes and hands. I knew Downshiftology was a global community, but the grand scale of this phenomenal community really set in when I saw your photos from around the world. To say it was humbling would be an understatement. Tears were definitely involved. And more tears followed when my Healthy Meal Prep Cookbook became a national bestseller – all thanks to you! What a way to cap off 2022.

And yet, even with fewer new recipes and videos in 2022, Downshiftology held strong. One thing I’m so grateful for with this business is how after more than eight years of hard work creating content (recipes, videos, and posts) growth simply sustains year after year. The community gets stronger and bigger, and that compounds when you share my recipes with your friends and family!

The content on this website was viewed more than 80 million times (a slight decrease from last year’s 87 million, though stay-at-home orders made 2021 a gangbuster website traffic year). And my YouTube channel gained over 400K new subscribers to end the year at 2.42 million subscribers.

Meal prep was a theme that definitely took center stage this year. Not only with the cookbook launch, but also with my Budget Meal Prep video that you loved (it got over a million views!). My roundup of 40+ best meal prep recipes was also a top post. And perennial favorites like guacamole, hollandaise sauce, overnight oats, and deviled eggs continued to be top-ranking recipes.

Alright, so which new recipes were most popular this year? Well, it should come as no surprise that the number one most-viewed new recipe aligned with the meal prep theme – simple chicken marinades! Simple and easy recipes (which, you know are my forte) continued to reign supreme. I mean, who can resist one-pan meals and the air-fryer for easy dinners? Beef tenderloin was also a holiday favorite along with my homemade horseradish sauce (fun fact: I never like horseradish sauce until I made it at home).

So what’s coming in 2023? Deep breaths and more vacations – ha! I feel like I did not embody “downshifting” very well this year with my cookbook launch. So while I have big plans for Downshiftology in 2023 (I am a Virgo after all) with new projects like subscription boxes and branded products, I might even plan some retreats or trips… for a little balance. Does anyone want to come with me?

Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart, for all your support in 2022. Cheers to 2023 friends – let’s welcome the new year with open arms!

While this beef tenderloin was posted at the very end of 2021, I’m including it in this year’s list because that’s when it really had time to rank. And rank it did! It became your favorite holiday main, along with prime rib.
